French culture and history beckon Flinders students

For Matthew Flinders Anglican College students, lessons in French and history are extending well beyond the walls of the classroom.
Next year, students will be travelling to France to immerse themselves in the culture and learn about the country and its history first hand.
The itinerary includes a stop at Villers Bretonneux, and students have already started researching the war history of that region.
They have each selected an Australian soldier killed in battle at Villers Bretonneux, and will write a biography about that person, and leave it at the war memorial.
“It makes it a lot more personalised when you’re finding out about what they did,” student Xanthe Milton said.
Classmate Kurtis Riannie said the biography would include information about their families, where they were stationed and personal details.
“The most surprising thing is to see how you they are,” Kurtis said.
“Some were just a little bit older than we are now.”
During the tour, the students will be billeted with French families, and will return the hospitality when French students come to the Coast in an exchange.
A
side from attending a French school and undertaking tours with their host families, they will visit sites such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Le Louvre, castles, museums and chateaux.
Eloise Muller said she was looking forward to attending a French school.
“I’m looking forward to getting the French cultural experience and improving my French as well,” she said.
Danielle Allen is staying with a large family in France and is hoping to make long-lasting friendships.
Xanthie is looking forward to a whole new life experience.
“It will mean being put out of our comfort zone and learning the language.
“I want to be fluent in French,” she said.
