Matthew Flinders Anglican College swimmers are celebrating after claiming trophies at both the Sunshine Coast Independent Zone Championships and the Inter-Anglican Schools Swim Meet.
It is the fourth year in a row that Flinders has triumphed at the Secondary School Independent Zone swimming championships, which were held at Noosa Aquatic Centre on Friday, February 19.
Flinders was successful in defending the title as Champion School winning by 478 points over second placed Sunshine Coast Grammar School, followed by St Andrew’s Anglican College in third.
Flinders won seven out of 10 age divisions, as well as all but one of the 10 relays. Congratulations to the five Age Champions: Tianni Gilmour (14 Years Girls), Charlotte Lohan (15 Years Girls), James Hawthorne (15 Years Boys), Krichelle Gilmour (Open Girls) and Taylor Jones (Open Boys).
The Flinders swim team backed up its local success on Monday, February 22, with 32 swimmers representing the College at the 8th Inter-Anglican Schools Swim Meet held at The Southport School on the Gold Coast.
For the first time, Flinders came away with three titles taking the Co-Ed School Champions trophy for the fifth year in a row; Relay Champions (combined boys and girls) for the second year in a row; and, for the first time, Flinders claimed the Boys Champions trophy.
Flinders’ male swimmers triumphed over the Anglican Church Grammar School in second place and TSS in third place in the boys division, and came second in the girls division, beating St Hilda’s School but just missing out on first to St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, the College’s best ever finish.
Flinders’ primary school students also put in a solid performance at their Independent District Swimming Carnival to finish second after a close tussle with St Andrew’s Anglican College, with Sunshine Coast Grammar School in third place.
A number of Flinders swimmers have been selected to contest the Regional and State swimming events.
The Sunshine Coast Primary Regional carnival is on Wednesday, March 10 and the Sunshine Coast Secondary Regional carnival is on Friday, March 5, both at the Caloundra Aquatic Centre.
