Flinders students 'Shout' with David Campbell

(posted 27.07.09)

There was plenty to “Shout” about on Saturday, July 25, when David Campbell brought his Good Lovin’ concert to town to mark Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s 20th year.

Sixty-five Flinders students in the choir and band, aged from Years 7 to 12, savoured the opportunity to workshop with Campbell during the day, before performing with the entertainer and his 10-piece band on the night.

The College Chorale joined with Campbell, one of Australia’s top entertainers, to sing the Johnny O’Keefe classic, Shout. The Stage Band also backed Campbell, performing Beyond the Sea and Mack the Knife.

Musical theatre star and Old Flinderian Patrice Tipoki, pictured left, who is currently appearing in the hit Broadway show Wicked in Melbourne, also performed on the night. Tipoki performed Nora Jones's Don’t Know Why and Once Upon a Time, from the Brooklyn musical. From swing and jazz, to the blue-eyed soul from his most recent album, Good Lovin’, Campbell wowed nearly 550 guests at the “New Orleans Soul Club” created in the Flinders Sports Centre.
