Emily takes Kokoda Challenge in her stride
(posted 29.07.10)
Year 11 student Emily Bird competed in an ultra team marathon on the Gold Coast in July, running for approximately 26 hours to complete the 96km course in the Kokoda Challenge.
The Kokoda Challenge ultra marathon is a fundraiser for work done in PNG to support communities on the Kokoda track.
The 96 kilometres represents the length of the track and the event has a 39 hour cut-off in honour of the 39th battalion that fought in PNG during World War 2.
Emily and her father were joined by two members of another family to complete the course together, raising significant funds for the efforts of the Kokoda group.
Congratulations all round.
