Matthew Flinders Anglican College French students have enjoyed great success at the annual Speech Contest held recently at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The Modern Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland’s third annual contest was held on Sunday, August 29.
The competition attracted almost 400 entries, including 105 French competitors, from approximately 25 schools, including 16 students from Flinders.
In the Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 sections, Flinders students took home the gold medal after top performances of a speech of their own choice.
Silver medals were awarded to Flinders students in the Year 7, 9 and 11 sections, and High Distinctions in Year 8, 11 and 12.
Earlier this year the French students toured to Paris for three weeks in April. They had extra time to work on conjugating their French verbs when they were stranded for an extra five days due to the eruption of Iceland’s volcano.
Gold medals went to Kelcie Bourne, Charlie Hall, Tom Fowles and Rhys Denovan; silver medals to Jamie Goodridge, Ashlee Unie and Miranda Spence; and High Distinctions to Andrew Winter, Samantha Dobrenov, Kyra Ng, Danielle Allen and Eloise Mueller.
