Joel's cool, calm and composer
(posted 28.01.10)
Joel Paszkowski didn’t use a pen and paper to write down his feelings, he used the keys on a piano.
Now the former Matthew Flinders Anglican College student’s talent for composing has paid off with his acceptance into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Joel, 18, is one of seven music students from Flinders who have been accepted into Queensland and Sydney conservatoriums of music.
He will be joined at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music by saxophonist Jake Barden.
Joel plays violin, piano and guitar and has been trained in singing, but creating music rather than performing it is his passion.
“I started writing music two or three years ago. To create your own music, for me, is the greatest art form, being able to turn marks on paper into sound,” he said.
Joel will complete a Bachelor of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
“I would like to do lots of things after I finish. I always wanted to write for musical theatre, or write film scores. I would love to write for different orchestral groups and hear my music played,” he said.
Joel will have four years to decide in which direction his composing degree will take him.
