Maroochydore product Jorden Page has fitted in seamlessly to the US College basketball scene in his freshman year with Saint Mary’s.
The former junior Clipper and Matthew Flinders Anglican College student earned his first start in Gaels colours late last month and has proven to coach Randy Bennett he will be a star of the future.
“He’s a good offensive player, and it’s easier to improve defensively than offensively,” Bennett told the Contra Costa Times.
“He’ll improve. They all do if they work at it, and he’s a good worker.”
Page has been earmarked as a future Boomer, having played in the world junior championships for Australia last year before embarking on his college move.
The speedy guard has worked his way into the side following an injury to one of the squad’s small forwards and is averaging nearly 14 minutes a game with a healthy shooting percentage.
His rebound counts have also been high considering his relatively short height of 186cm.
Page, 19, lived with Boomers dynamo Patrick Mills while he trained at the Australian Institute of Sport for two years before being picked up by Saint Mary’s.
Page’s mother Jodi plays for the Maroochydore Clippers ladies side, and his grandparents Sid and Beryl Page are stalwarts of the club. Sister Soraya, also a Maroochydore Clipper representative player, is a Co-Curricular Scholarship holder at Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
