After going through the most nerve-wracking experience of her life, Krist-Elle Hill has hit a high note, accepted at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
Krist-Elle, a clarinet player who graduated from Matthew Flinders Anglican College last year, is one of an astonishing six of the school’s students who got the nod to partake in the QCM’s bachelor of music course this year.
The other students offered places are singer Lauren Lodge-Campbell, composers Andrew Wrangell and Rebekah Trevor, bass trombonist Matt Thomas, and viola player Natalie Kitney.
“It’s a dream come true. I’ve been playing clarinet since I was nine and knew right away it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” Krist-Elle said.
Three other Flinders students, saxophonist Jake Barden and musical theatre performers Joel Paszkowski and Aimee Liesegang, are waiting to hear where their musical futures are heading after auditioning in New York, Perth and Sydney.
John Thomas, the school’s band director – and proud dad of trombonist Matt – said the college’s music program was going from strength to strength. “The success of the students is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication on their part, and also the part of their teachers,” he said.
