Matthew Flinders Anglican College's claim to music excellence was reinforced with an outstanding showing at this year's Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
Melodious sounds reverberated from the Nambour Civic Centre as musicians representing schools from across the Coast converged on centre stage to compete at the annual event.
Entertainment and talent abounded from all participating schools but it was the outstanding performances of 250 musicians from Matthew Flinders Anglican College which continued the school’s mighty tradition of musical excellence.

Flinders was awarded first place in every major Secondary ensemble category. Flinders String Orchestra, Stage Band, Wind Symphony and Flinders College Chorale were all champions in their divisions. This outstanding effort was completed by the Flinders Choir, which also took first place in their section of the eisteddfod.
The performances of the Flinders' musicians were rewarded by the adjudicators' glowing comments: “absolutely exquisite interweaving of solos and counter melodies, “sophisticated and mature playing” and “gorgeous warm and rich sound from the whole ensemble”.
Flinders has always been home to a growing group of talented and enthusiastic musicians. Led by Head of Music, Mr Nick Campbell, the College's music program is producing many inspirational musicians who are destined to take the step from performing locally to the national or even international stage.
Ask these young musicians the secret of their success and they are quick to shout the praises of their marvellous maestros, Mr Campbell, John and Jenny Thomas, and Genevieve Bignell.
