Flinders in Top 10 Qld schools - Primary and Secondary

Matthew Flinders Anglican College has scored outstanding results in the 2010 NAPLAN tests, placing in the top 10 of Queensland schools in both Primary and Secondary.
While welcoming the recognition, Principal Anthony Vincent stressed that NAPLAN results were just one indicator of a school’s performance.
He congratulated the students and teachers on their consistent hard work and praised them on their commitment to academic excellence.
The Sunday Mail report released on September 12 ranked Flinders the 4th highest achieving school in Primary (Yrs 3, 5 and 7), and the 6th highest achieving school in Secondary (Yr 9). (Read Sunday Mail story)
In the Primary result, Bardon State School topped the highest average scores, Somerville House 2nd, Ironside State School 3rd, followed by Flinders in 4th place, and the Anglican Church of England Grammar School in 5th.
In Secondary, Brisbane Girls Grammar and Brisbane Grammar took 1st and 2nd place, followed by Brisbane State High, All Hallows in 4th, St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace 5th and Flinders 6th.
The Sunday Mail reported: “Analysis of more than 2000 individual school results shows ‘old school tie’ private schools are being challenged at secondary level by newer kids on the block such as … Matthew Flinders Anglican College (ranked No 6 on Year 9 results).”
The school mean of Flinders students across Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 was better than the State and National mean in every area. (See results)
The NAPLAN - National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy - tests Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.
Of particular note were the Year 3 results which were 26% above the Qld mean in reading, 25% above in Grammar and Punctuation, 22% above the Qld mean in Numeracy, 20% above in Writing and 17% above in Spelling.
The other year levels (Yrs 5, 7, 9) also had some great results with several students achieving some of the highest scores in the state.
