The Divine, The Dark and The Despicable
(posted 29.04.10)
This year’s offering of One Act Plays from Matthew Flinders Anglican College is sure to tickle more than one funny bone.
Out of the construction site of the Performance Centre, The Divine, The Dark and The Despicable is emerging - three extremely humorous plays that are sure to keep you entertained from May 13-15.
To open the evening, Year 7 and 8 students will present ‘The Bible in ......... Minutes’. Under the direction of four of Flinders’ very talented Year 12 students, Nathan Abbott, Chase O’Connell, Charles Sells and Joel Wren, this play promises to provide a very amusing – but still accurate - journey through the Bible.
The second play, ‘Black Comedy’, centres around struggling artist Brindsley Miller and his fiancée Carol who give a party with the aim of impressing Carol’s bombastic father, Colonel Melkett, and millionaire George Bamberger, who may buy some of Brindsley’s sculptures. Before the guests arrive the main fuse blows, plunging the flat into darkness; only we, the audience, can see what is happening. What follows is a frantic romp with unexpected visitors, mistaken identities, and surprises lurking in every dark corner! The result, as you might expect, is chaotic, disastrous – and very funny. A small select group of Year 9 and 10 students have been working very hard to bring this delightful romp to life – again laughing will be compulsory!
To finish the evening the Year 11 and 12 students will bring us ‘Dogg’s Hamlet’. Those of you with a long association with the College may remember that we brought you this highly entertaining adaptation of Shakespeare’s work a few years ago. The response was so positive we are bringing it back again! With many comical moments, ‘Dogg’s Hamlet’ is sure to bring a smile to your face.
The last five Flinders productions have sold out and this season of One Act Plays will be no exception. Ticket prices are the same as they were in 2008 - $15 for adults and $10 for students and Concession holders. Phone 5477 3231 to book.
Please note, due to the construction of the Performance Centre, access to the theatre is restricted and, unfortunately, people with mobility issues may find it difficult to attend this production.
