Last Friday (September 9), 96 students from Matthew Flinders Anglican College travelled to Grantham to put on a special concert to help lift the spirits of the children in the flood-ravaged Queensland town.
The Primary Music Tour saw members of the Flinders Band, Flinders String Orchestra and Flinders Choir make the journey to the Lockyer Valley township.
The students from Years 3-7 presented a concert at the Ma Ma Creek community hall for students from Grantham State School, and other smaller neighbouring schools, Flagstone Creek and Ma Ma Creek.
“Each year we go away on our music tour and we decided this year to do something a little different because of the troubles that Grantham had in the January floods,” Acting Primary Music Coordinator Maree Coote said.
“We decided it would be nice to give something back to the community. The Grantham State School principal was very excited and even invited a couple of other smaller neighbouring schools to the concert.
“They were an excited audience! I had lots of appreciative comments from their staff - saying how wonderful it was that we were prepared to come all that way just for them.”
The Flinders Friends of Music also made a generous donation towards Grantham’s music program, and Flinders students presented the Principal, Ms Christie Minn, and the Grantham students with a special card filled with best wishes and messages of encouragement from the Sunshine Coast.
