Musical Excellence

Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s claim to musical excellence was reinforced with a series of outstanding performances at this year’s Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
The College's String Orchestra, Stage Band and Wind Symphony were once again all awarded first place in the major Secondary ensemble categories at the annual event.
This amazing effort was completed when the Flinders Choir, Flinders Strings and Flinders Band also took first places in their Primary sections of the Eisteddfod.
Entertainment and talent abounded from all participating schools but it was the outstanding performances of more than 300 Flinders musicians which continued the school’s mighty tradition of musical excellence and incredible success at the competition.
This year saw the Buderim College enter nine large ensembles - a record number - with more entries than any other school on the Coast.
High praise flowed from the visiting adjudicator, Nathan Schilling: “Some really amazing ensemble playing, great dynamics, great attention to detail, your enjoyment is obvious” and “you work really well as a team, seriously, a very mature performance”.
Flinders has always been home to a growing number of talented and enthusiastic musicians. Led by the inspirational Head of Music, Mr Nick Campbell, and his team of maestros, John Thomas, Genevieve Bignell, Maree Coote, Julene Robertson and Sally McHugh, Flinders is producing many musicians who are destined for the national and international stage.
This outstanding talent was reflected last year when seven of Flinders 2009 graduating students were offered places to study at the renowned Sydney or Brisbane Conservatoriums of Music.
