Flinders scholarships help students achieve dreams
(posted 03.03.10)
Saxophonist Jake Barden and composer/performer Andrew Wrangell are two young men on course to realise their musical dreams after earning places at two of Australia’s leading Conservatoriums in 2010.
Jake, pictured right, is taking up a much sought-after opportunity to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and Andrew was one of six Flinders students offered places at the Brisbane Conservatorium of Music.
Both Jake and Andrew were recipients of Music Scholarships to attend Matthew Flinders Anglican College, where they honed their musical skills in their final years at school.
Sportspeople like Year 12 student Tessa Wallace, pictured left, who is fast closing in on breaststroke queen Leisel Jones, and waterpolo star Caitlin Field, who graduated from Flinders in 2006, also won scholarships (Co-Curricular) to help them on their paths to success.
Academic, General Excellence and Performance Scholarships (Co-Curricular and Music) are available each year to assist students to study at Flinders.
2011 scholarship applications are now open – and for the first time, The Principal’s Scholarship is open to external students who otherwise would not be able to consider a Flinders education.
Applications close March 14. Apply online at www.mfac.edu.au/scholarships. For more information, phone 5477 3260.
