(posted 22.10.09)
Nambour Uniting Church will echo with the “Sounds of Summer” on Saturday, October 31 when the Matthew Flinders Anglican College Wind Symphony comes to town.
Under the baton of well-known Nambour music maestro, Mr John Thomas, pictured below, the 60-plus members of the ensemble will perform a repertoire of traditional symphonic band music and modern favourites, including a rousing rendition of Pirates of the Caribbean - definitely something for everyone.
Winners for the past eight years at the Sunshine Coast Junior Music Eisteddfod in the Concert Band Secondary Section, the Flinders Wind Symphony’s engagements have extended this year to a Sydney tour where they performed at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and alongside the Sydney Street Choir at Angel Place.
Saturday’s event, which starts at 7pm, is a celebration of the College’s renowned Music Program and a showcase of the outstanding musical talent.
Two up-and-coming Primary students - Bonnie Lawler on trumpet and Corey Lehmann on saxophone - will feature on the night.
Flinders Friends of Music will provide refreshments at interval and the all inclusive tickets are available on the night or from the Flinders Music Department by phoning Kay Jackson on 5477 3258 or emailing music@flinders.net.au.
Cost is $7 per person or $20/family (2 adults, 3 children).
