The quality of education on offer at Matthew Flinders Anglican College has been showcased in a Sunshine Coast economic development initiative designed to attract new businesses to the region.
The Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with 12 of the region’s leading industry, government and educational representatives, has put together a new economic development initiative, The Natural Advantage.
The project is designed to attract national and international export-focused businesses that recognise the region’s enormous potential. The aim is to make the Sunshine Coast one of Australia’s most sustainable regions.
“Working in partnership with key stakeholders, we are encouraging new industries and businesses to consider basing themselves here on the Sunshine Coast,” Mayor Bob Abbot said.
“The region will boast some of Australia’s most sophisticated and sustainable master-planned communities over the next 20 years, it will be home to a growing and skilled workforce and will offer significant lifestyle advantages over metropolitan cities.
“We are stepping up our efforts to take the message to the rest of the nation and the world – that the Sunshine Coast is fast becoming the business location of choice.”
As well as showcasing the Sunshine Coast’s lifestyle, economy and infrastructure and promoting the region as a “Live, Learn, Work and Play Destination”, the Coast’s educational offerings are also put in the spotlight.
A promotional DVD developed for The Natural Advantage project features students from Matthew Flinders Anglican College and interviews with 2009 College Captains Sally Morris and Alex Tedman.
"Being born and raised here (on the Sunshine Coast) ... you can see why people want to be here – it’s just a fantastic place to live,” Alex said.
“There’s really no place like home,” Sally said. “You can see why people travel from all parts of the world to be a part of this Sunshine Coast community.”
“Education on the Sunshine Coast is definitely extraordinary,” Alex said. “The fantastic weather and the pull of the Sunshine Coast itself has drawn a lot of fantastic teachers who are looking for a great lifestyle, and that’s reflected in the education we get as students.”
Sally and Alex were special guest speakers at the project’s launch, which was held at Gourmet Garden at Palmwoods in mid-November. The pair took time out of their final-year exam block to speak, on behalf of the next generation, about their vision for the Sunshine Coast.
The College’s String Quartet also played at the launch event.
