Students step into principal roles in The Boy From Oz
Three Matthew Flinders Anglican College students have landed principal roles in the upcoming local Pro-Am production of The Boy From Oz.
Aimee Liesegang, Year 12, and Eloise Mueller, Year 10, pictured right, and Henry Jeaffreson, Year 6, pictured below, have all been madly rehearsing around their studies in preparation for opening night on October 7.
Henry, who is only 11 years of age, will be fulfilling the role of the young Peter Allen, with his older counterpart being played by seasoned musical theatre performer Dale Pengelly, pictured right.
Despite Henry’s age, he is accustomed to being in the limelight, previously holding roles in productions by the Caloundra Chorale and BATS theatre companies. He has trained with the Buderim Youth Theatre of Excellence for the past five years and is currently undertaking ballet, jazz and tap lessons with the Sunshine Coast Academy of Arts.
While most Year 12 students are consumed with thoughts of their final year assessment, QCS results and OP scores, Aimee Liesegang has managed to find time to squeeze in preparations for her role as Shena, a member of Peter Allen’s backing trio.
Aimee, also not a stranger to the stage, performed in the Caloundra Chorale's production of Les Miserables and Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s recent rendition of West Side Story. Aimee was also awarded the Senior Vocal Championship and Speech Championship awards at the 2009 Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
Year 10 student Eloise Mueller will perform alongside Aimee as Linelle, another member of the trio. Straight off the back of Lind Lane Theatre’s Oklahoma season, Eloise has made a very quick swap from plaits to sequins.
“Henry, Eloise and myself all dream of performing on the stage for a living," Aimee said. "Being given the opportunity to work with someone of Dale Pengelly’s calibre has been an unbelievable opportunity for us and has given us a rare insight into the world of professional theatre.”
The Boy From Oz will be performed at The Events Centre from Wednesday, October 7 until Sunday, October 18 with 2pm and 7.30pm performances available. Tickets can be purchased by calling (07) 5491 4240 or visiting www.etixdirect.com.au.
Ticket prices are adults $39, concession/member $35, student $25, child under 12 $20, Family $99.
