Flinders among top achieving schools in Qld
Exceptional Year 12 Outcomes 2009

(posted 03.06.10)
Congratulations to the Flinders graduates of 2009 whose outstanding results have been acknowledged in the Year 12 Outcomes report released this week.
The 2009 OP comparisons are released by the State Government through the Queensland Studies Authority, and were published in Brisbane’s The Courier-Mail and the Sunshine Coast Daily on June 1.
Flinders is delighted to be acknowledged for the outstanding 2009 Year 12 results, including recognition as the top school on the Sunshine Coast for students achieving an OP1-5.
Although few educators support league tables, the results are now a part of our lives and are a focus of the media.
The Sunshine Coast Daily acknowledged Flinders as the ‘top’ school on the Coast in terms of OP measures. Flinders achieved well above the State average of 18% of 2009 graduates achieving an OP 1-5 with a remarkable 36.4%. (See Sunshine Coast Year 12 Outcomes 2009)
The Courier-Mail placed Flinders as the 7th highest achieving school in Queensland in terms of OP 1-5 as a percentage of OP eligible students (36.4%), and 11th in terms of total numbers of students achieving OP1-5 (48). This latter statistic is an exceptional result given the much larger Year 12 cohorts in many schools. Flinders was the only Sunshine Coast school to be recognised as one of the top achieving schools in Queensland. (see Courier-Mail report)
A further analysis by the College of the data reveals that Flinders ranks 4th in Queensland in terms OP 1-5 as a percentage of the total Year 12 cohort with 34% - an outstanding result! (see report)
In previous years, the only OP data released was the percentage of eligible students achieving an OP 1-15. This year, additional data was released providing the number of students achieving OP 1-5, OP 6-10, OP 11-15, OP 16-20 and OP 21-25. As a result, the media coverage focussed primarily on the OP 1-5 data. In previous years Flinders has ranked in the top five schools in Queensland on the basis of OP 1-15 data, and it is extremely pleasing that this outstanding record has held up so well in the more competitive OP 1-5 range.
Flinders is also very pleased with other aspects of the data: 92% of students achieving an OP 1-15, 99% of students receiving a first round QTAC tertiary offer (a later offer pushed this to 100%), 28 students achieving a Vocational Educational qualification, and 97% achieving a Queensland Certificate of Education. “Congratulations to our 2009 graduates for their outstanding application,” Principal Mr Anthony Vincent said.
“Congratulations, too, to our committed and hardworking staff who enable our young people to realise their potential. In particular, thanks to our Director of Senior Schooling, Mr Nev Rowley, for his overall contribution and guidance.”
