Flinders claims Champion School titles at swim meets
Matthew Flinders Anglican College swimmers are celebrating after claiming trophies at both the Sunshine Coast Independent Zone Championships and the Inter-Anglican Schools Swim Meet.
It is the fourth year in a row that Flinders has triumphed at the Secondary School Independent Zone swimming championships. And at the 8th Inter-Anglican Schools Swim Meet, Flinders came away with three titles - the Co-Ed School Champions trophy, Relay Champions, and, for the first time, the Boys Champions trophy.

Congo lines, cartwheels as Primary Pavilion opened
To strains of Celebration and I Like to Move It, Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s youngest students celebrated the unofficial opening of the new Primary Pavilion.
Representatives from the Student Staff Council were given the honour of cutting the tape, allowing 500 primary students to stream onto the undercover area for the “Special Kids Opening” on Wednesday, February 24.
Matthew Flinders Anglican College was successful in gaining a $3 million grant under the Federal Government’s Primary Schools for the 21st Century component of the “Building the Education Revolution” (BER) Stimulus Program.

Flinders Scholarships Program helps students achieve their dreams
Saxophonist Jake Barden and composer/performer Andrew Wrangell are two young men on course to realise their musical dreams after earning places at two of Australia’s leading Conservatoriums in 2010.
Both Jake, pictured, and Andrew were recipients of Music Scholarships to attend Matthew Flinders Anglican College, where they honed their musical skills in their final years at school.
Academic, General Excellence and Performance Scholarships (Co-Curricular and Music) are available each year to assist students to study at Flinders. 2011 scholarship applications are now open – and for the first time, The Principal’s Scholarship is open to external students who otherwise would not be able to consider a Flinders education.

Danielle upstages big names at Qld Lifesaving titles
Remember the name Danielle Allen. The plucky Alexandra Headland 15-year-old has upstaged some of the biggest names in surf lifesaving to win the open board final at the Queensland titles on the Gold Coast this month.
Most pundits were left asking “Danielle who?” after she came from the clouds to come home ahead of established Gold Coast competitors Alyce Bennett and Bonnie Hancock.
She said she now had her eyes firmly set on next year’s Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain series, after the Alexandra Headland teenager was this year barred from entering the event because of event age restrictions.

Young athletes run, jump, swim and ride to success
The 2010 athletics and sports season has started with a flurry of achievements from Matthew Flinders Anglican College students, just as the 2009 season finished.
Flinders athletes have competed in triathlon, aquathlon, athletics and track and field, with top results achieved across the events, including selection in national championships.
Year 11 student Lucy Larsen, who aims to qualify for the World Championship in Christchurch in 2011, has recently returned from the National AWD Underage Championships in New South Wales.

Sailing siblings on the right tack
Sunshine Coast siblings Mitchell and Madison Kennedy rocked the boat in the 2010 Australian Youth Championship sailing competition in South Australia.
Mitchell place fourth in the youth division and fifth in the open men’s, and Madison took the title in the 4.7 women’s laser class. Madison’s accomplishment has resulted in her selection for the first Youth Olympic Games.
