Performance Scholarship - Music
(Information for entrance in 2013)
In order to assist students to attend Matthew Flinders Anglican College, Performance Scholarships - Music remitting 50% of tuition fees are offered to students entering Years 7-12.
Years 7-9
Performance Scholarships - Music will be offered to students entering Years 7–9 and applicants should be approximately Grade Three AMEB or Trinity College standard. The scholarship will be awarded for the duration of the student’s Secondary schooling, and will be subject to an annual review. It is expected that musicians awarded a scholarship will:
- Demonstrate ongoing development, technically and musically. For example, completing one AMEB or Trinity College (or equivalent) practical exam per year.
- Participate in two co-curricular ensembles (which may involve a second instrument or voice).
- Consider Music as part of their academic studies.
Years 10–12
In addition, students entering Years 10-12 would be considered based on a realised potential evidenced by a minimum standard consistent with Grade Six AMEB or Trinity College (or equivalent). It is expected that musicians awarded a scholarship will:
- Demonstrate ongoing development, technically and musically. For example, completing one AMEB or Trinity College (or equivalent) practical exam per year.
- Participate in two co-curricular ensembles (which may involve a second instrument or voice).
- Consider Music as part of their academic studies.
In addition, a recipient of a Performance Scholarship - Music would be required to:
- Be prepared to perform as a soloist at College functions.
- Be prepared to attend and take part in Music workshops and camps as organised by the College.
- Prioritise College music activities before other music commitments.
- Be prepared to work within the ethos of the College with others less able or musically developed than themselves.
- Demonstrate leadership within the College and community. For example, assisting conductors during rehearsals, assisting other musicians, wearing the school and performance uniforms appropriately.
The following documents should be submitted:
1. A completed application form.
2. Written references from the applicant’s instrumental or vocal teacher/s.
3. A copy of the applicant’s most recent school report and NAPLAN results.
4. A copy of the applicant’s most recent music examination report/s.
5. Application fee of $40. Cheques should be made payable to Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
Based on the documentation provided in the application form and the criteria outlined above, applicants may be invited to attend an audition. The auditions will take about 15 minutes and applicants will be required to perform two contrasting pieces of their own choice, one of which may be on a second instrument. Applicants must provide their own accompanists, if required. As well as performing, applicants will be required to read at sight and complete a brief aural test which will be followed by an interview with the audition panel. After the auditions, short-listed candidates and their parents will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal. Scholarship winners will be announced following this process.
All applicants will be advised in writing whether or not they are invited to attend an audition by 23 March 2012. Auditions are expected to be held on 29 and 30 March 2012.

(Note: If students are applying for more than one scholarship, it is requested that they submit a separate portfolio with each application.)
