At Matthew Flinders Anglican College we encourage independent thinking, challenging students to adapt both mainstream and out-of-the-box ideas to support well-thought out opinions. Our debating team program is an extension of our belief that improving speaking and listening skills will help build self-esteem and confidence.

Debating instructs students on the art of turning facts and statistics into a strong argument, moderating tone and language to get a message across and listening critically before developing a well-reasoned response. These are skills that will serve students well, both in the classroom and everyday life, as they broaden their horizons and begin to explore more complex ethical questions.

We have a proud history of achievement across the year groups, with success at state and national level. Interested students receive the necessary help and support they need to excel.
