Families with children in Senior Primary are invited to attend the Matthew Flinders Anglican College Year 5 Design for Impact Summit Showcase on Thursday, 14 July from 2:00pm.

The Design for Impact Summit is a two-day design thinking immersion experience for our Senior Primary students, where, as ‘future thinkers’, they empathise, imagine, design and prototype the Maroochydore City Centre for 2050.

Parents and students are invited to attend the Summit Showcase to experience first-hand the energy, excitement and possibility of design thinking.

Summit Showcase Event

The event begins with a welcome and overview of the Design for Impact Summit at the Flagship Centre, the purpose-built Years 5 and 6 precinct. Guests will then be matched with a Year 5 student ambassador who will escort them to the Performance Centre and personally show them around the project.

Guests will attend the official opening of the Maroochydore 2050 World City – constructed by the students as an awe-inspiring large-scale 3D model that represents their vision for a smart, healthy, happy and sustainable future city.

This event will also be attended by the parents of the Year 5 Flinders students. There will be opportunities to talk to students and teachers, and others involved in this innovative project.

Families will then be invited to join our Primary and Admissions Teams for afternoon tea on the deck of the Quarterdeck Café.

More about the Summit

Building on Flinders’ Primary School’s i-Impact program, the Design for Impact Summit aims to develop a deeper engagement and understanding of the design thinking process for students to apply to their learning and future units.

Learning through the globally renowned Round Square Ideal of Democracy, our Year 5 students experience active democratic participation and the power of collective decision making. Local community members with specific industry expertise visit to disrupt students’ thinking, challenging them to empathise with different stakeholders during the design process.

This is the third year the immersion experience is presented as a partnership with Queensland University of Technology Design Lab and experts in design. The event is part of a larger ongoing research collaboration with QUT Design Lab and Matthew Flinders Anglican College’s Primary School.
