At Matthew Flinders Anglican College we are very fortunate to have at our disposal a $11m world-class, technologically on-trend Performance Centre which offers an exciting and innovative venue for students and the community at large.
Opened in 2011, the Centre boasts an impressive auditorium that can accommodate 600 people in tiered seating and up to 400 for a formal dinner. Facilities also include a dance studio with spring floor, a number of tuition rooms, a café for parents and older students, a commercial kitchen and assorted sizeable reception areas.
The auditorium plays host to school concerts and plays, information nights, award ceremonies, assemblies and social events while drama, dance and music students make use of the smaller rooms during term time to hone their skills.
More than a boon to the College, the Performance Centre has also quickly become an important part of the Sunshine Coast entertainment fabric. Its location and versatility has made it a sought-after venue for dance concerts, charity shows, youth orchestras and community drama productions.
“We are really very lucky to have a multi-purpose facility of this calibre at Matthew Flinders,” says Performance Centre manager Sarah Sullivan. “For me, to be able to put up or take down 600 seats in 10 minutes is pretty amazing. It is a wonderful venue and gives the students a great advantage.
“We are also able to offer the Sunshine Coast a top-class, centrally located facility and we have now become the premier dance venue on the Coast. The multi-functionality offers another dimension and is a great draw card for outside events which in turn provide a revenue stream to ensure the Performance Centre is at its best for our students.”
