The rugby community at Matthew Flinders Anglican College is thriving, with great community support for boys and girls of all ages, playing 7s or 15 a side rugby. Lots of tournaments and tours, as well as plenty of hosting inbound tours from the UK, NZ, Japan or Canada are a significant feature.
Flinders Secondary has teams from 1st XV down to U13 and then U12–U7 for Primary aged students as well as Rugby 7s teams for boys and girls from 13 to 18 years of age.
Secondary U13 to 1st XV play SCSSRU fixtures are on Wednesday evenings throughout Term 2 against Independent, Catholic and government schools in the region.
Primary school rugby is played within SCISSA at U10 and U12 levels.
U7U14 Saturday rugby is offered within the SCRU competitions.
Hosting inbound international tours traditionally from Canada (March/April) and the UK (July/August) is a prominent feature of Flinders Rugby as is touring the Gold Coast (U8,U9 U10 &U11) Armidale U12, Sydney U15 and United Kingdom U17 annually or bi-annually.
Rugby 7s throughout Semester 2 for boys and girls 12–18 yrs.
Traning is conducted on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm–5:00pm from February to September.
Flinders Rugby Club
Flinders Rugby welcomes players from within and outside of the College to participate in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union’s competition. Players from outside the College are embraced and encouraged to participate in all training and coaching activities.
The Flinders Rugby Club is a “Flinders Activity Club” under the constitution of the Matthew Flinders Anglican College Parents and Friends’ Association Inc. and is managed by the College’s Director of Rugby and supported by the Flinders Rugby Support Group. .
Flinders Rugby has the opportunity to enter teams from Under-7 through to Junior Colts (Under-18’s). Games are played from March to September on Saturday’s from 8am, with older team games sometime scheduled on a Friday evening. Games are played at different venues across the Sunshine Coast from Caloundra to Noosa. All teams train on Monday and Thursday afternoons during the playing season, with pre-season training scheduled also.
Flinders Rugby Parents Support Group
Flinders Rugby is supported by an energetic, passionate and committed group of parents who primarily manage the Saturday rugby teams and organise all home games. We normally have between 3-4 Saturday and 3-4 Wednesday home games. Main duties here include: ground marshalling and coordination of bar-b-q/canteen with all funds raised supporting the development of all our rugby players.
We aim to have every age group represented in the support group.
