Book your Tickets to musical comedy 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' at Flinders

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is coming soon, and you're invited! Presented by Secondary students at Matthew Flinders Anglican College over three shows from Monday 7 June to Wednesday 9 June at 7pm, tickets are now for sale at https://www.trybooking.com/BRGPF.

This Tony-award-winning musical comedy is in the final stages of rehearsal, and the cast are tackling some pretty difficult words as we speak!

The show takes the vehicle of a US-based Spelling Bee competition to explore the trials and tribulations of a group of Year 6 children - all of whom love to spell.

What is a Magic Foot? How many languages can these kids speak? Will they crack under pressure? And what on earth does Syzygy mean?

For the answers to these questions, and for a great evening of fine entertainment in the presence of a wonderful cast, join us for the show!

Audiences will also enjoy the wide variety of music, which swings from deeply moving to ridiculously funny!

More about the show

Spelling Bee involves a Flinders cast of 17 students from Years 10-12, and three technical crew in Year 12.

The show is presented in our Flinders Drama Theatre as part of our Flinders Creative Arts Co-Curricular Program opportunities.

Recent drama productions at Flinders include 13: The Musical in 2020 and Legally Blonde in Term 1, 2021.

Words from Flinders Head of Creative Arts, Mr Danny Parker

Head of Creative Arts, Mr Danny Parker said Spelling Bee was a challenging piece, however, the students were up for the challenge.

"It's fantastic to see all the student actors and tech crew growing in confidence and skill with each rehearsal and each performance opportunity. For some involved in the Spelling Bee, this is their third production within two years at Flinders!" Mr Parker said.

"We are now casting for the next show at Flinders, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, with a cast of 24 students.

"It is exciting to see the uptake is increasing as more and more students want to get involved and experience the challenge and exhilaration of pulling a show together with a student team.

"It's also valuable that our students are gaining experience performing on stage to live audiences in the professional venues we have here at Flinders."
