Matthew Flinders Anglican College has commenced construction of its new Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Centre as part of a reinvigorated Sports Precinct to be delivered through the College Master Plan.
The purpose-built environment will support students to train safely, develop confidence and pursue their personal best. The College has more than 600 students participating weekly in school sports, alongside HPE lessons, and the new S&C Centre is set to become a vibrant centrepiece at Flinders.
The facility will also enable Flinders to leverage the potential presented by the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The College is partnering with Wilson Architects and builders Integral Construction. Construction commenced in June, with completion anticipated in March 2027.
Designed as an extension of the current Sports Centre, the S&C Centre will overlook the College’s magnificent sports field, the Anthony Vincent Oval.
The new S&C Centre will comprise:
- Cardio and Strength Training Studio
- Functional Training and Mat Room
- Flinders Elite Athlete Program Hub
- Recovery and Sports Med Room
- Two HPE classrooms
- An all-weather outdoor social space for the Year 7 cohort and wider community.
Additionally, the Sports Centre refurbishment will include the Term 4 installation of a new ProAction Thrust low profile timber-sprung flooring for the indoor sports courts, designed to absorb impact, reduce injuries and enhance traction. The new flooring meets strict European (EN) and ASTM standards for lateral foot stability and provides an exceptional environment for students who compete in volleyball, basketball, netball, indoor soccer and other competitions.
Flinders has a proud legacy of sporting excellence, nurturing athletes who rise to state, national and international levels. The upgraded Sports Centre reflects this standard, offering elite facilities for students to hone their skills and thrive in training.
The projects are part of the College’s 2025–2029 Master Plan to meet the needs of its more than 1,440 students from Prep to Year 12 and the Flinders Early Learning Centre community.

To support the redevelopment of the Flinders Sports Precinct, the Matthew Flinders Foundation launched its Strong Starts Here campaign in 2025, seeking philanthropic support from the Flinders community and the wider community.
