Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim is a proud Foundation Sponsor of Sunshine Coast 2032, championing our region as it embraces opportunities presented by the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Games will see the Sunshine Coast host a range of sporting disciplines, which may include football, rugby 7s, marathon, mountain biking, road cycling and race walking. Final Olympic and Paralympic sports will be confirmed in 2026.
Principal Michelle Carroll said the College was honoured to support SC2032 in driving economic success, fostering positive community sentiment and enhancing the region’s liveability and environment.
“Flinders is committed to being a catalyst for positive change and providing young people with opportunities to engage, excel and be inspired through sport,” Ms Carroll said.
“Our involvement in Sunshine Coast 2032 enables us to join with schools, businesses, organisations and individuals to leverage the best for our region before, during and after the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Together, we have a bold vision to support regional growth, nurture youth sport pathways and ensure a lasting legacy for the Brisbane 2032 Games that will benefit future generations.”
Sunshine Coast 2032 Chair Roz White said she was thrilled to welcome Matthew Flinders Anglican College as a Foundation Sponsor of Sunshine Coast 2032.
“Flinders’ commitment to youth, sport and community aligns perfectly with our vision to amplify the best of our region in the lead up to, during and after the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Mrs White.
Principal Michelle Carroll said that since Flinders was founded in 1990, the school had grown from a starting enrolment of 161 students to support more than 1,400 students today, providing families on the Coast with a quality education for the ‘whole child’ to achieve excellence in learning and life.
“We’re continuing to innovate and invest in students’ health and wellbeing, academic endeavour and personal growth as we embark on a three-phase redevelopment of our Flinders Sports Precinct,” she said.
“Through this exciting Flinders Master Plan project, we aim to deliver new, state-of-the-art facilities and provide an inspiring, modern and tech-rich environment for our students to unlock their physical, mental and academic potential.
“This cutting-edge precinct will also provide transformative opportunities for our staff and the wider community and enable Flinders to leverage the exciting potential presented by the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Flinders' Olympians and Paralympians
Over the past 35 years, Flinders has proudly supported and helped to develop six Olympians and Paralympians, including:
- Swimmer and Year 12 student Callum Simpson, OAM - who won two gold medals and one silver medal in the pool at the 2024 Paris Paralympics
- Swimmer Tessa Wallace (Flinders Class of 2010) - competed in the 2012 London Olympics
- Swimmer Katja Dedekind (Flinders Class of 2019) - competed in the 2024 Paris Paralympics; 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, winning two bronze medals; and 2016 Rio Paralympics, winning a bronze medal
- Kayaker Ally Clarke (Flinders Class of 2017) - competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Cyclist Kristina Clonan (Flinders Class of 2016) - competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Track and Field Athlete Lara Hollow-Williams (Flinders Class of 1998) - competed in the 2004 Athens Paralympics.
Flinders Scholarships Program Open Now
Flinders is offering Sport Scholarships, along with Music and Principal’s Scholarships, to invest in the next generation of young people with special talents. The College is currently calling for applications by Friday, 11 August 2025.
