Matthew Flinders Anglican College is celebrating the Senior A Girls winning two major inter-school grand finals on the Sunshine Coast this year.
On Wednesday, 18 June, the Flinders Firsts team won the Term 2, 2025 SCISSA Soccer Grand Final with a 2-1 final score against St Andrew’s Anglican College. This earned them first place in the high quality inter-school sporting competition for eight Independent Schools on the Sunshine Coast.
Their SCISSA win followed on from their Term 1 win at the Football Queensland Sunshine Coast Schools Premiership which involved a hard-fought 1-0 win over St John’s College.
Principal Michelle Carroll congratulated the Senior A Girls team at the College assembly on Thursday, 19 June and presented them with their Premiership flag and honorary “Flinders Beast Pins”, a school tradition to recognise exceptional talent and teamwork.
Head of Sport, Mr Adam Ridgewell said it was exciting to see girls football flourishing at Flinders, with a group of high-performing students helping to inspire and lead their teammates.
“We are excited to have a group of exceptional players at Flinders, including Rosie McMahon, Rosie Harris and Ciara Evans in Year 12; Madison Hartley in Year 11; and Sofia Erazo-Vitulli and Natalia Webbe in Year 10 all playing at NPL level U18, U23 or Senior Womens as well as for our College.
“Many of these students are part of our Flinders Elite Athlete Program (FEAP) where they are supported through mentoring and workshops to explore their potential, manage their workloads and develop skills both on the pitch and in the classroom,” Mr Ridgewell said.
“We also have strong coaching and mentoring support for our girls, including from the Director of FEAP, Ms Lauren Nourse, and from our Director of Coaching for Soccer, Mr Paul Arnison.
This year, our girls were also coached by senior students Rosie M and Rosie H, and a range of staff members and our Seniors supported by manager Mrs Katherine Harris.”
