This junior adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical gives 44 of Flinders' passionate Year 6 students an exciting opportunity to shine as part of the Semester One SCISSA program, which encourages students’ participation and developing excellence across sports, dance and the dramatic arts.
Tickets are $20.00 for the 30-minute shows on Thursday, 18 June in the Flinders Performance Centre:
The show is directed by Mrs Sue Coleman-Mann (Acting Head of Primary Music), with invaluable support from the Secondary Dramatic Arts Team, Mrs Natalie Elcoate on set and costume design, and wonderful parent helpers.
Mrs Coleman Mann said it had been a privilege for staff to nurture the Year 6 students in finding their voices and growing through this production.
“Shrek is all about celebrating who you are, and this cohort has done just that, bringing immense heart, humour and collaboration to the stage,” Mrs Coleman said.
“With dedication to the show and to each other, these students have thrown themselves into these wonderfully eccentric characters, representing the very best of the Flinders spirit.”
Primary School students from Prep to Year 5 will attend the matinee shows during the school day to experience the vibrance, creativity and wonder of this captivating production and to cheer on their peers on stage.
SYNOPSIS
Our story follows Shrek, a grumpy but loveable ogre whose peaceful isolation is shattered when a crowd of homeless fairy-tale misfits is banished to his swamp by the ego-driven Lord Farquaad. To reclaim his solitude, Shrek strikes a deal: he will rescue the fiercely independent Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower and deliver her to Farquaad.
Joined by a hilariously talkative Donkey, Shrek sets off on a life-changing quest. Along the way, secrets are revealed, unexpected friendships are forged, and Shrek realises that opening his heart to others is the greatest adventure of all.
Brought to life by the incredible energy of our Year 6 students, this production is a joyous celebration of identity and community. The central message of Shrek shines bright: embrace what makes you unique, stand up for your friends, and let your "Freak Flag fly”.
