It’s the longest-running musical on Broadway, and now it’s our turn! “Chicago” is on at the Flinders Performance Centre in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast from Tuesday, 10 June to Thursday, 12 June from 7:00pm to 8:30pm - and you’re invited!
This multi-award-winning show has been adapted for high schools, and is presented by our students over three evening shows, with dinner-theatre-style seating on stage, as part of our co-curricular Flinders Dramatic Arts program at Matthew Flinders Anglican College.
Get ready to be “razzled and dazzled” by Chicago’s plot twists and turns, energetic dance choreography and toe-tapping jazz tunes.
“Chicago” will feature our talented Secondary School students across a range of roles, including on-stage cast and technical crew, and with our Flinders Dance ensemble featuring in several iconic numbers, such as “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango”.
The Flinders Dramatic Arts Department is thrilled to have Visiting Artist Lucy Fraser serving as Musical Director and Choreographer. Earlier this year, Lucy starred in "Grease" at QPAC in Brisbane and will appear there again this October in the upcoming production of "Pretty Woman".
SYNOPSIS
Since “Chicago” debuted in 1975, it has become adored worldwide as an ageless classic that takes a comedic look at crime, greed and fame.
Set in the Roaring Twenties, "Chicago" the musical follows chorine Roxie Hart who murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap.
Soon enough, he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another 'Merry Murderess', Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the American Dream: fame, fortune...and acquittal.
This piece challenges us all to ponder: What is the true price of fame?
