Swimming is a sport that the Matthew Flinders Anglican College community is very passionate about. The College has many talented students that have had great success at different levels. The College’s magnificent Aquatic Centre is home to the Flinders Aquatic Academy, led by Olympic coaches Jan Cameron and Chris Mooney.

Flinders Aquatic Academy

The Flinders Aquatic Academy (FAA) is the brainchild of experienced Olympic Swim Coaches Jan Cameron and Chris Mooney. Jan and Chris currently enjoy a considerable profile in the Australian and International swimming communities.

The College and FAA are thrilled to partner in providing an aquatic journey from Babies to Olympians. It excites Chris and Jan to be able to share their proven pathway of development from children taking their first swim to Olympic Medal winners. Their enviable networking within the swimming community across the Nation has allowed them to recruit only the best Learn to Swim Instructors as well as Assistant Swim Squad Coaches.

The Flinders Aquatic Academy also assists our Sports Department at:

  • College Swim Carnivals
  • preparing College Swim Teams
  • ensuring best practice in HPE classes enabling every student at Flinders the best opportunity for swimming success.

Competitions

Competitive swimming is available for boys and girls aged 7 to 18.

Matthew Flinders Anglican College selects both a Primary (9–12) and Secondary (13–18) team to contest the annual Independent District (SCISSA) Swimming Championships. Flinders has a very proud record of success at these events.

Successful students at the above event may gain selection to compete at regional, state and national championships.

The Flinders Swim Club provides opportunities for students to learn how to race, leading to participation at regional, state and national meets.

Training

Due to the short nature of the inter-school season, the College team have very few opportunities to train together. Where time permits, lunch time and before school sessions are organised for relay teams.

Students are encouraged to join the squads in the College Swimming Pool. Many sessions per week are conducted from Learn to Swim throughout to state level swim squads.

Training Sessions and times can be booked by contacting Jan Cameron and Chris Mooney.
