The Year 9 cohort of Matthew Flinders Anglican College invites parents, families and members of the Sunshine Coast community to a Flinders Year to RISE showcase of student work and presentations on Thursday, 23 November.
This is the first year that the Year to RISE program has run and the event is an opportunity to celebrate student development in creativity, critical thinking, communicating and collaboration throughout the year.
The culminating project is a student-driven challenge where students are able to choose the problem to respond to and the way in which they respond. Year 9 students were posed the following question: ‘How can we as stewards of the future, pitch a viable response to address a real world problem?’ Students were given three weeks to create a response to this question, and the products of this response will be showcased at this event.
Recently, students have completed their Fusion Courses from the Year to RISE curriculum. The products and processes of these courses will also be showcased.
The Year to RISE program was specifically designed to inspire students to ask questions, seek solutions and take action; leveraging curiosity by striking a balance between knowledge development and inquiry. This approach encourages students to build skills towards mastery in various disciplines, engage in meaningful and transferable learning, and find purpose in key experiences whilst still readying themselves for the demands of senior schooling.
