Is your family considering joining the Middle School at Matthew Flinders Anglican College in 2026 or beyond?
Prospective families are invited to learn how students can make a confident start to Secondary School through our Years 7 to 9 Middle School program on Tuesday, 23 April from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in our Flinders Performance Centre.
Come and hear from our Head of Middle School, Mr Sam Huckstep, about the innovative Middle School programs and our Middle School philosophy, which is collaborative, outcome-based and centred on the learner.
Students will also share their highlights of Middle School in a panel discussion - favourite subjects and co-curricular clubs, memories from outdoor camps, strategies for tackling homework and most loved tuckshop items!
At Flinders, Middle School is a time when adolescents have the need for purpose, empowerment, independence and success, and our quality teaching team and leadership team support our students to thrive through this exciting stage of growth and development.
Our Year 7 Precinct is a new, masterplanned facility just for our Year 7 students! This dedicated space enables our Year 7s to grow more connected as a cohort and develop a sense of belonging, wellbeing and confidence as they transition into the Secondary School.
In Year 8 our students develop their capacities well beyond the expectations set out by ACARA through the Australian Curriculum. Our Middle School curriculum places a deliberate focus on the core skills of literacy and numeracy whilst challenging students towards higher-order thinking and problem-based approaches.
Our Year to RISE program is an innovative year-long curriculum for our Year 9s, designed to address the dip in engagement that is traditionally experienced by this age group. Students are empowered as ‘problem seekers and solvers’, and learn through innovative classroom teaching and a range of high-energy, interactive workshops and mini conferences. There is a focus on developing ‘soft skills’ that are vital for success in Senior School and equip them for the future workforce. These soft skills, also known as Flinders Learner Traits, include creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, character and citizenship.
