Matthew Flinders Anglican College will launch a revitalised rugby program in 2021.
The aim is to develop student rugby players of all ages through skills-based and specialist coaching as well as build the rugby culture amongst the Flinders community.
The College has appointed Peter Ryan (photo inset, right), former Brisbane Broncos and ACT Brumbies premiership winner and specialist coach for the Broncos, Brumbies, Fiji, and most recently Queensland Reds to be part of the program.
Peter will work with Flinders’ players in Semester 1 to develop contact and defence skills. He will also support students to build team culture and develop character traits. Peter will work with all players through either training sessions or at specialised clinics.
The College has also appointed Ben Radmall (photo inset, left) as Director of Rugby Coaching. Ben will work to develop a common structure of coaching and strategic play across all grades.
Ben has been involved with Flinders Rugby for many years in both younger age groups and most recently with the Opens boys. Ben’s extensive coaching experience includes as a former Development Officer for The Sunshine Coast Rugby Union and Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club in England.
The Flinders First and Second XV Rugby teams will be managed by Michael Molloy and coached by a qualified and experienced team, including David Mathias (Level 3 Coach) and Shannon Whitehill (Level 2 Coach).
David was Head Coach of Queensland Country U16 who toppled their Brisbane City rivals. Shannon was the premiership-winning coach of our Flinders U15s.
Both girls and boys teams of all ages will be guided through the program with team and specialist coaches. Students will be encouraged to enjoy their involvement and improve their performance throughout their rugby careers.
Flinders’ pre-season training clinics commence in January.
It is an exciting new stage in the proud history of Flinders rugby.
