Years 7 and 8 at Matthew Flinders Anglican College represent a pivotal and ambitious phase of learning. Our Junior Secondary curriculum is purposefully designed to bridge the transition into secondary schooling, blending a high-rigour academic environment with a supportive, student-centred approach. We focus on building deep knowledge and mastery in core disciplines while empowering students to explore their creative and technological passions.
The Year 7 journey is defined by a "soft landing with high expectations." Recognising the importance of this transition, students spend much of their time within our unique Year 7 Precinct. This dedicated space fosters a strong sense of belonging and allows for a highly pastoral approach to learning. Students are grouped into core classes for English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health & Physical Education, and Languages.
In addition to core academics, Year 7 is a year of vibrant exploration. Students rotate through four specialised Arts fields—Drama, Media Arts, Music, and Visual Arts—and participate in our innovative IDEAS program, which integrates Design and Digital Technologies through real-world, problem-solving challenges.

In Year 8, the curriculum evolves to reflect the growing independence and maturing interests of our students. While maintaining a strong traditional core in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Health & Physical Education, the program introduces an expanding elective offering.
Students begin to exercise agency over their learning journey, choosing from a diverse range of Arts, Language, Business and Technologies electives. This flexibility allows students to dive deeper into their strengths and trial new areas of interest, ensuring they are well-prepared, confident, and curious as they look toward their Middle Secondary years.
