The transition through Year 9 and 10 at Matthew Flinders Anglican College represents a pivotal phase where curiosity meets intention. This is a time for students to move beyond the foundational, transforming knowledge into action as they find their purpose and make meaningful connections across disciplines.
The diverse and rich elective program empowers students to find their passions and test their strengths. This period of discovery is designed to build the agency and academic resilience required for the Senior Phase, ensuring every student is equipped to set a confident direction for their final years of schooling and beyond.
The unique ‘Year to RISE’ program inspires Year 9 students to ask the big questions, seek innovative solutions, and take decisive action. By striking a balance between deep disciplinary knowledge and inquiry-based learning, the curriculum encourages students to master transferable skills. It is a year dedicated to leveraging curiosity and helping students find their "why" through immersive experiences that prepare them for the demands of senior secondary education.

Year 10 serves as the bridge to the Senior Phase of learning. It marks a shift from the broad, experiential curriculum of the Middle Years toward the focused disciplinary study of the Senior Years. Grounded in the Australian Curriculum but with a firm connection to the Senior School Curriculum, our Year 10 courses are designed to refine the sophisticated academic skills necessary for success in Years 11 and 12. Through our Academic Care and Senior Education and Training (SET) program, students begin to map their future pathways—including vocational and early-entry Senior subject options—ensuring they select a suite of subjects that meets their interests and future plans, and builds a foundation for long-term success.
