Senior Fit for Life

Students are required to attend one lesson of Fit for Life per fortnight in Year 11 and in Year 12. The intention is to provide timetabled physical activity for senior students in keeping with the ‘learning for life’ philosophy of the College. Lessons include supervised recreational activities, such as team sports, and access to the Flinders Fitness Centre, which is a sports-specific training facility and weights room.

Through Fit for Life, students are encouraged to learn that being physically active is essential for their individual fitness and health, and also provides many social, emotional and intellectual benefits that can support them throughout their lives. Research shows that regular physical activity can help young people to feel more confident, happy and relaxed, with improved self-esteem, and improves concentration skills and the ability to manage the demands of school, work and home life.

Physical activity is also important for developing skills such as cooperation and teamwork, and is a great way to have fun, try new hobbies, meet new people and develop friendships. Committing to sport activities and teams also helps students to become more motivated and organised. The variety of activities within this program should provide some insight into they types of activities that students can access both as individuals and within a social team environment to ensure that they maintain a healthy active lifestyle post secondary school.
